Under 9s Division 2
Bewdley Town Comrades 5 Cookley
Boys 1
The Comrades extended their lead at the top of Division 2 after a comfortable win in a game that for long
periods they struggled to get going in. With a full squad available Harry Wilkinson went in goal for the first half allowing
Jas Bourne to come out in to defence. Jas set the tone with some crunching early tackles and interceptions and a calm head
in finding a team mate. Despite much of the territorial advantage her team mates struggled to get past a resilient Cookley
defence and the bumpy mole hills littered around the box! All the players seemed unnerved by the bumps and lacked composure
in finding a team mate or hitting the target. Eventually the pressure told and Jack Shepherd tapped in for the lead from close
range. This should have sparked the team in to life but apart from a Jamie Davies shot just wide the half seemed to be heading
for a 1-0 score line.
This changed in the final minute as first Cookley broke and with 4 Comrades defenders making poor decisions
smashed an equaliser past Harry. Comrades then hit back with a fortunate shot from Jack looping over the Comrades keeper.
Half time saw a change of keeper with Harry Chatwin taking over between the posts. The second half saw a
much better performance with Dan Booth and Harry Wilkinson strong at the back and a great showing out wide from Jamie and
Harrie Todd.Jamie produced to great crosses from the right firstly for Jack to complete another hat-trick and then for Matt
Benyon to tap home at the far post. Harry when called upon held on to Cookleys’ long range shots and Jordan came back
on and was back to his best.
Comrade’s final goal came as Matt smashed home a right foot shot off the underside of the bar as the
teams fitness began to tell. The final few minutes saw Jas and H trying to get their first goals of the season as they pushed
forward with great effort but it wasn’t to be as both hit shots wide after great runs.
H was awarded player of the match for a second half of effort, determination and composure on the ball when
needed
